Description

Persian classic hand-knotted carpet, made of natural wool. The carpet has cotton warp and natural colors. It is made in Iran but the style is from Turkmenistan.

The Turkmens are originally a group of Central Asian Turks who lived in tents in east of the Caspian Sea to the Jihun River since ancient times. The main place of life of Turkmen is the country of Turkmenistan, but some of the Yamut tribe and some of the Teke tribe live in Iran.

One of the important and interesting regions in carpet production in Iran is the Turkmen Sahara region. The special feature of this region's climate, customs, and available primary resources have made Turkmen carpets unique and differentiated them from hand-woven carpets in other regions of Iran.

In the past, only herbal and traditional dyes were used for dyeing Turkmen carpet yarn. The use of plants such as pomegranate skin, walnut skin, hair leaves, and Runas for dyeing carpets was more popular; But now chemical colors are also used in some cases.

White, black, lacquered, dark green, and yellow lacquered colors are used to produce Turkmen carpets, and in general, the colors in Turkmen carpets are limited to a few colors.

In most of the hand-woven carpets of other regions of Iran, cotton warp and weft are used in the carpet texture. But it is interesting that the weft of the Turkmen carpet is made of sheep's wool in most cases.
